Electric Field due to a System of Charges

Electric field due to the system of charges can be calculated easily by using Coulomb’s Law and Superposition principle so, consider a system of charges q1, q2, …, qn with position vectors r1, r2, …, rn relative to some origin O.

Electric field E1 due to q1 is given as

Electric field E2 due to q2 is given as

By using Superposition principle, the electric field due to system of charges is given as

E(r) = E1(r) + E2(r) + … +En(r)
